About Gulmarg
Gulmarg is a two-hour drive from Srinagar and changes character completely with the season. From December it is a serious ski destination — the Gondola climbs to nearly 4,000 m on Apharwat Peak and the descents are long, open and lightly tracked.
From May the snow gives way to the meadow that gave the place its name, ringed by pine and looking straight across at Nanga Parbat on a clear day. Either season, go early in the day: the Gondola queues build fast and Phase 2 closes without warning when the wind picks up.
